Getting to know Isa Gutiérrez

March 21, 2022

Hi, I’m Isa! Nice to meet you. 😊

Let me introduce myself briefly. Video games have always been a big part of my life, I grew up playing horror games with my dad and my sister, so I’m very glad that I can now put my two cents into this industry. Apart from games (ofc), I love books, coding, music, makeup, and dogs!

I work as a Project Manager and Video Game Translator here for Native Prime in the Spanish team. Are you interested in being a PM? Well, I don’t have a secret formula, but some of the main skills that have helped me a lot as a PM are:

  1. Good communication
  2. Multitasking
  3. Time management
  4. Empathy

I believe one of the most important goals any Project Manager should keep in mind – apart from meeting deadlines and quality assurance – is to understand what both your teams and the developers need. That way, you’ll be able to make working on each project easier for everyone.

There it is when good organization skills and multitasking come in handy. You usually end up with tons of different tasks that you need to take care of simultaneously. There will be times when you’ll be taking care of a bigger task that requires quite some time – like setting up a new project on memoQ or preparing a briefing for the teams – when suddenly you receive an email from one of the developers…

Surprise! 😯 They forgot to include 3 strings to the latest batch, and they require those translated ASAP. So you need to stop whatever you’re doing and make sure to kick-off those few new words right away.

If you are wondering… Yes, as PM, I cope with stress all the time.

It is essential to anticipate any possible issues, listen to all ends, and meet their needs. That way, you’ll be saving energy and avoiding stress in the future. What also helps me the most during stressful projects is making to-do lists – dividing the bigger tasks into smaller ones and organizing them based on their importance or urgency. I LOVE lists, checking them little boxes when you’re done with a task is so satisfying. 😀

But not all my work is about PM! I have also localized many games. What is my favorite, you might ask? Well… I have no doubts.

I loved working on Hitman 3. I’m a huge fan of the saga, so it was an honor to manage the teams and work closely with the developers. It was a lot of work, but it also allowed me to keep in touch with people from all over the world.

I also love working with Devolver, they are very attentive and always give us a lot of information and references, keys for the beta versions of the games if possible and answer all our localization queries, which makes our job a lot easier.

Thank you for reading me today! You should check the “Getting to know” articles to learn more about the incredible world of working in localization. See you!
